PRP / GFC for Skin Rejuvenation

PRP / GFC for Skin Rejuvenation

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) are autologous — meaning derived from the patient's own blood — regenerative treatments that harness the body's natural healing and growth factors to rejuvenate the skin. When injected or applied to the skin, they stimulate collagen synthesis, improve skin texture and elasticity, and promote an overall healthier, more youthful complexion.

PRP vs GFC — Understanding the Difference

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

A small volume of the patient's blood is centrifuged to concentrate platelets and their associated growth factors into the plasma fraction. PRP contains a rich mix of growth factors including PDGF, VEGF, TGF-β, EGF, and FGF, which stimulate fibroblast activity, new collagen production, and tissue repair when introduced into the skin.

GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate)

GFC is a more advanced, refined preparation that selectively concentrates the growth factors released by platelets into a pure, leukocyte-free solution with a higher and more consistent growth factor concentration than standard PRP. The absence of red blood cells and white blood cells reduces inflammation at the injection site, making it more comfortable and better tolerated with a more predictable outcome.

How PRP / GFC Rejuvenates the Skin

When injected into the dermis, PRP and GFC deliver concentrated growth factors directly to fibroblasts and other skin cells, triggering:

  • Increased collagen and elastin production — improving firmness and reducing fine lines.

  • Improved skin hydration and thickness through hyaluronic acid stimulation.

  • Enhanced skin radiance and reduction of dullness.

  • Accelerated healing when used with microneedling, subcision, or laser treatments.

  • Improvement in skin texture and mild acne scar depression.

Conditions & Concerns Addressed

  • Dull, tired, or ageing skin lacking radiance.

  • Fine lines and early wrinkles.

  • Loss of skin firmness and elasticity.

  • Mild acne scars as part of a combination approach.

  • Periorbital rejuvenation (around the eyes).

  • Post-procedure recovery enhancement (after laser or microneedling).

The Treatment Process

1. Blood Collection & Processing

A small volume of blood is drawn from the patient's arm. For PRP, it is centrifuged to separate and collect the platelet-rich plasma. For GFC, the collected PRP undergoes an additional activation and filtration step to produce a pure growth factor solution.

2. Skin Treatment

After topical numbing, PRP or GFC is administered to the skin via intradermal microinjections (mesotherapy technique) or applied topically immediately following microneedling to maximise dermal penetration. Sessions typically take 30–45 minutes.

3. Post-Treatment Care

Mild redness and pinpoint marks resolve within 24–48 hours. Gentle moisturisers and broad-spectrum sunscreen are used during recovery. Normal skincare can resume after 48 hours.

Benefits of PRP / GFC for Skin

  • Autologous — uses the patient's own biological material, minimising risk.

  • Stimulates natural collagen and elastin for lasting skin improvement.

  • Enhances skin hydration, radiance, and overall quality.

  • Excellent synergy when combined with microneedling, laser, or other procedures.

  • Minimal downtime with a well-tolerated procedure.

What to Expect

An initial course of 3–4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart is typically recommended. Gradual improvement in skin quality, radiance, and firmness is noticed over 2–3 months. GFC tends to offer more consistent growth factor delivery compared to standard PRP. Maintenance sessions every 6 months help sustain the regenerative benefits. Results are enhanced when PRP or GFC is used as part of a broader skin treatment programme.
